How to play Canfield Solitaire

Read the aim of Canfield Solitaire, then make your first move. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
